Certain policies introduced to battle COVID-19 should be kept. Every second Russian considers that after COVID-19 the state services should still be made available online for the Russian citizens; volunteering and mutual aid practice should also be promoted.
MOSCOW, May 07, 2020. Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VCIOM) presents the survey data describing the policies to smooth out the effects of the pandemic, as well as the policies that should be kept.
COVID-19 caused anxiety and new problems making the state and society take measures in response to it. Certain policies that became widespread in recent weeks should be kept even after the pandemic, Russians say.
In late April, every second Russian (52%) said it was important to keep and promote the opportunity to access public services online. Almost the same number of respondents (50%) favored the idea to further promote volunteering.
Forty-two percent of Russians also consider that office workers should be provided with the opportunity to work remotely even after the pandemic is over.
Many respondents also think that online advanced training should be provided to adults even after the pandemic (37%). Every third Russian considers that there should be more opportunities to watch theatre performances and exhibitions online (33%). Certain respondents favor higher education online or online schooling (30% and 29%, respectively).
Russian VCIOM-Sputnik survey was conducted on April 23, 2020. Results are based on telephone interviews with 3,000 Russians aged 18 and older. A stratified dual-frame random sample based on a complete list of Russian landline and mobile phone number was used. The data were weighted according to selection probability and social and demographic characteristics. The margin of error at a 95% confidence level does not exceed 1.7%. In addition to sampling error, minor changes in question wording and different circumstances arising during the fieldwork can introduce bias into the survey.
