IN BRIEF

June 23, 2021. VCIOM presents the data of a survey describing Russian attitudes towards mandatory COVID-19 vaccination in Moscow and the Moscow region.

More than three-quarters of Russians (77%) know that Moscow and the Moscow region authorities made COVID-19 vaccination mandatory for at least 60% of service workers. Twenty-two percent of Russians heard about that for the first time. They are often young Russians aged 18-34 (30-31%).

More than half of respondents (56%) believe that mandatory vaccination meets the coronavirus situation in these regions. Every fourth respondent (25%) considers that mandatory vaccination hardly meets the COVID-19 situation.

Every second respondent (52%) believes that mandatory vaccination for service workers will help to prevent the spread of the coronavirus in Moscow and the Moscow region. This opinion is mainly shared by persons living in the cities with 100,000 inhabitants and rural area (54-58%). One-third of respondents oppose this opinion (34%); 14% could not give a definite answer.

Almost every second respondent (49%) favors mandatory COVID-19 vaccination; 30% oppose them; 16% remain indifferent.

Russian nationwide VCIOM-Sputnik survey was conducted on June 20, 2021. A total of 1,600 of Russians aged 18 and older took part in the survey. Results are based on telephone interviews. Stratified dual-frame random sample based on a complete list of Russian landline and mobile phone numbers was used. The data were weighted according to selection probability and social and demographic characteristics. The margin of error at a 95% confidence level does not exceed 2.5%. In addition to sampling error, minor changes to the wording of questions and different circumstances arising during the fieldwork can introduce bias into the survey.

This week Moscow and the Moscow region authorities have adopted mandatory COVID-19 vaccination in Moscow and Moscow region for at least 60% of workers employed in the service sector (f.e., food service, education, housing and public utilities, public transport, etc.) . Do you know, have you heard, or do you hear for the first time about it?
