March 3, 2021. The results of a survey presented below illustrate the TV and Internet consumption among Russians.
More than half of Russians actively consume digital and television content: they watch TV and go online at least several times a week (53%). Most of those who are active Internet users and TV viewers are respondents aged 35-59 (61-64%). Since 2018 this share has decreased by 9 p.p.
Another large group in terms of media consumption is represented by Russians who use the Internet but do not watch TV — 28%. Since 2018 this share has increased by 15 p.p. Those who abandon TV for online content are mainly young Russians: 69% of the 18-24-year-olds; 48% of the 25-34-year-olds.
Seventeen percent of Russians watch TV and rarely use the Internet (a five-point decrease since 2018); the group of Russians aged 60 and older makes up 45%.
Russian nationwide VCIOM-Sputnik survey devoted to the Internet use and television viewing has been conducted on a daily basis since April 2018. A total of 1,600 of Russians aged 18_ and older take part in the survey on a daily basis. Results are based on telephone interviews. Stratified dual-frame random sample based on a complete list of Russian landline and mobile phone numbers is used. The data are weighted according to selection probability and social and demographic characteristics. The margin of error at a 95% confidence level does not exceed 2.5%. In addition to sampling error, minor changes to the wording of questions and different circumstances arising during the fieldwork can introduce bias into the survey.
