Amid low levels of satisfaction with the social and economic situation in the region, the acting governor is perceived as a “governor of hopes.”

MOSCOW, July 2, 2019. Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VCIOM) presents the findings of a survey devoted to the assessments of the performance of Alexander Osipov, the acting governor of the Zabaykalsky Krai, and pre-electoral situation.

Amid low levels of satisfaction with the social and economic situation in the region, the acting governor is perceived as a “governor of hopes.”

MOSCOW, July 2, 2019. Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VCIOM) presents the findings of a survey devoted to the assessments of the performance of Alexander Osipov, the acting governor of the Zabaykalsky Krai, and pre-electoral situation.

Most of respondents (70%) assess positively the performance of Alexander Osipov as acting governor; 71% trust him.

The residents of the regions hope that the acting governor will be able to improve the situation in the region: 80% would like him to remain in the position (6% would prefer another person as a governor).

For the time being, residents of the region tend to express discontent with the situation in the region (67%).

Every third (33%) says that the situation has changed for the better over the recent six months; 50% say the situation has not changed. Those who see improvements mention road repairs and construction (7%), urban improvements in settlements (4%).

Currently 75% of regional residents show their readiness to take part in the gubernatorial elections. А. Osipov is at the top of electoral rating: he is supported by 75% of all respondents. The remainder do not gain more than 3%. Osipov’s electoral support extends up to 83% given the number of those who are willing to participate in elections; in contrast, other candidates have not gained or lost much support (from 2% to 1% for E.Krauze). Eighty–six percent admit they would vote for the acting governor A. Osipov.

The survey was conducted June 14-21, 2019 and initiated by the Development Foundation of Zabaykalsky krai. Sample size includes 1,600 respondents; sample is representative of the krai’s population aged 18 and over by sex, age, and education. The margin of does not exceed 3.5%. Method of survey: face-to-face interviews at the place of residence and telephone-based interviews.
