Russians expect the World cup will be organized properly.
MOSCOW, July 24, 2015. Russian Public Opinion Research Centre (VCIOM) presents the results of the survey concerning the following questions: how Russians assess the readiness of Russia to host the World Cup 2018; and what the organization of the world championship will bring to Russia. The press release contains the results of the Russian media monitoring carried out by the Medialogia Research Company[1].
The World Cup 2018 is a high profile event: 84% of Russians are aware that the world football championship will be held in Russia in three years. The awareness level is high among football fans (98%) and men (92%), whereas low awareness is typical for those who are not interested in sports competitions (75%) and women (78%).
Moscow, St. Petersburg and Yekaterinburg are at the top of the Medialogia rating of the Russian cities which prepared to host the World Cup 2018.

Those who think so are young Russians (91% of those aged 18-24), residents of Moscow and St. Petersburg (94%), elderly respondents (88% of those aged over 60), and residents of small cities (90%). Only 6% of interviewees doubt that Russia will be able to organize the word championship properly (17% of them disapprove of the presidential performance; 16% are non-parliament parties` supporters).
Championship expectations are rather positive than negative: 59% of Russians are confident that Russia will benefit from this event. Those who share this stance are football fans (76%), residents of Moscow and St. Petersburg (68%), 18-24-year-old Russians (67%). They are opposed by only 12% of respondents. Every fifth (20%) says that this competition will cause neither positive nor negative changes.
The VCIOM opinion poll was conducted June 6-7, 2015; 1600 respondents were interviewed in 130 settlements in 46 regions of Russia. The margin of error does not exceed 3.5%.
Monitoring and analysis of the Russian media publications were carried out by the Medialogia Company using 25800 sources such as television, radio, newspapers, magazines, information agencies and online media. The ranking is based on the Medialogia MediaIndex which measures the qualitative presence of the object (geographical notion) in the information field. The MediaIndex depends on the media importance, visibility of the message, attractiveness of the object mentioned in the media, and the nature (negative/positive) of the message, etc. The period of study was July, 2014 – July, 2015.
