Only 6% of respondents believe that the Crimea`s incorporation will bring more bad than good to Russia.

MOSCOW, April 2, 2014. Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VCIOM) presents the information concerning the attitudes of Russians towards Crimea`s incorporation into Russia, as well as what this decision will bring to Russia.

The overwhelming majority of Russians (96%) believe that the decision to incorporate Crimea into Russia was right. This stance is equally supported by residents  of million cities (98%) and rural area (95%), young Russians (96%) and elderly respondents (97%), supporters of the United Russia party (97%) and CPRF (99%).

Three-thirds of Russians consider that the Crimea’s incorporation into Russia will bring more benefits to Russia (76%). At the same time, residents of small cities (78%) and persons who have higher education diplomas (76%) mark more benefits unlike Muscovites and St.Petersburgians (69%) and respondents with low level of education (68%). Only 6% of respodnents believe that it may lead to negative consequences.  

Now Russia does not need to pay the rent for the Black Sea fleet base - this is the main benefit mentioned by those who think that the incorporation of Crimea is beneficial (35%). Respondents also mention that Crimea is a good health resort (28%); Russian–speaking population will be reunited, and residents of Crimea will start a decent life (12%). Other 7% point out rich natural resources. Those who assess negatively the incorporation cite that the maintenance and development of the peninsula will take money (51%).

The VCIOM opinion poll was conducted on March 22-23, 2014. 1600 respondents were interviewed in 130 communities in 42 regions of Russia. Data are weighted by gender, age, education, working status and type of settlement.  The margin of error does not exceed 3.4%.
