Both Russians and Ukrainians prefer meeting new people within a circle of friends, at work or courses but not in the streets or on the Internet.
MOSCOW, September 5, 2011. Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VCIOM) presents the data concerning the results of the Russian and Ukrainian survey of public opinion on the most popular places for meeting new people. The Ukrainian opinion poll was conducted by Research & Branding Group.
According to Russians, the best place to meet people is a circle of friends. This is followed by courses/studies (42%). Less respondents point out interest clubs, streets (14% for each), bars, parties and restaurants (10%). Few people prefer gyms and fitness centers, concerts and theatres (7% for each). Only 3% of respondents mention libraries.
Those who prefer circle of friends are respondents aged 35-44 (69%), Muscovites and St.Petersburgians (74%). Those who are in favor of work or courses are mainly 25-34-year-old respondents (47%), residents of big and middle cities (47-48%). Interest clubs are preferred basically by those aged 18-24 (21%) and residents of big cities (22%). Young respondents opt for bars (parties) and streets (22% for each). Rural area residents more often than metropolitan residents choose streets as the best place to meet new people (18 versus 5% respectively). Those who are in favor of the Internet are Russians younger than 35 (19-20%) and residents of middle cities (16%).
The results of both Russian and Ukrainian polls are similar.
