Today every third inhabitant of large Russian cities is a smoker. Most of smokers choose ordinary cigarettes.
MOSCOW, May 21, 2019. Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VCIOM) presents the data of a survey devoted to tobacco consumption by inhabitants living in certain Russian cities.
For the time being, 33% of adult population living in the cities under examination consume nicotine products regularly; 29% of respondents opt for cigarettes; 1% prefer e-cigarettes; 3% choose tobacco heating systems, and 7% mention other tobacco products (pipes; roll-ups, etc.)
An overwhelming majority of respondents (95%) started with cigarettes when they first tried to consume nicotine on a regular basis; this share is higher among women (97.3%) rather than men (93.3%). Three percent mention other tobacco products; 0.8% cite e-cigarettes. Only 0.4% started with tobacco heating devices.
VCIOM survey was conducted in May and April, 2019, and commissioned by Philip Morris Sales and Marketing. The survey involved inhabitants of Moscow, St Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Rostov-on-Don, Novosibirsk and Krasnodar aged 18 and over. The survey was conducted via telephone; it was based on a random sample of landline and mobile telephone numbers (6,000 respondents). Quota sampling was used (quotas set for population size, sex, and age).
