MOSCOW, July 13, 2007 Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VCIOM) presents information concerning how the fact that Sochi was elected host city of the Olympic Winter Games 2014 reflected on the ratings of the Russian politicians.
If presidential elections were held this Sunday, the majority of Russians would have voted for the present Head of State. V. Putin has led the presidential rating for the first six months of the year. 60%-62% of the respondents expressed their wish to vote for him in January - April, and 63%-65% wanted to vote for him in May - June. The number of his voters significantly rose during the first week of July to reach 69% (it used to be 63%). Thus, the victory in the contest for hosting Olympic Winter Games has caused a new increase in Vladimir Putin's popularity. Any other presidential contender rivalling with Putin does not collect more than 4% of potential votes.
V. Putin also leads the information rating. In January 26% of the respondents remembered and liked his public addresses, whereas 35% did in February, after that the President collected the average of 22%-24% in this rating. In the first week of July, however, the number of those, who remembered and liked his public addresses, dramatically increased from 22% to 31%.
Two first deputy Prime Ministers competed for a second place in the information rating. The number of those who mentioned S. Ivanov amounted to 4-6%, whereas the number of those mentioning D. Medvedev varied within the range of 3-7%. V. Zhirinovsky as always occupied the third place (3%).
More than half of the respondents mention V. Putin Among as answer to the question who the politicians mostly trusted by the Russians are. 54%-55% of the respondents mentioned his name in January - April, while this number gradually grew and totaled 58% by July 7-8. D. Medvedev occupies the second place in the rating of trust. In the first half of the year he was mentioned by 19-21% of the respondents as a politician whom one can trust most. 13% of the respondents spoke of their big confidence in S. Ivanov in January, then their number grew and reached 22% by July, while it was then slightly reduced again by July 7-8 to reach 17%. On the third place is S.Shoygu, who caused the greatest trust of 11-14% of the respondents from January till the beginning of July of this year.
79-83% of Russians approve of the activity of V. Putin as the President of our country. On the second place in the rating of approval of work is Prime Minister M. Fradkov (42-46%).
The All-Russia opinion polls were conducted by VCIOM in January - July, 2007. 1600 respondents were interviewed each of these times in 153 population areas of 46 regions of Russia. The statistical error does not exceed 3.4%
