U.S.-Russia relations are getting warmer: the proportion of those who have positive attitudes towards America has increased from 46 to 59%.
MOSCOW, June 28, 2010. Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VCIOM) presents the data describing the attitudes of Russians towards the United States of America.
Russia-U.S. relations keep warming. After a surge of negative ratings towards America in September 2008 (65% of respondents), the proportion of those who feel favorably toward America is growing up: 46% in June 2009, 59% - now. At the same time, the share of those with disapproving attitudes is declining (from 33% in 2009 to 27% currently).
Most of those who view the United States positively are residents of small cities and rural area (61-63%). Many Muscovites and St.Petersburgians tend to negatively perceive America (36%).
U.S. high approval rating is expressed by the "United Russia" party electorate (64%). Most of CPRF supporters treat America negatively (41%).
Besides, 18-24-year-old respondents (64%) and Russians with high level of income (67%) have also favorable view of America. They are opposed by basically Russians with low level of income (35%).
The initiative Russian opinion polls were conducted on May, 1-2, 2010. 1600 respondents were interviewed at 140 sampling points in 42 regions of Russia. The margin of error does not exceed 3.4%.
