Russians prefer domestic destinations amidst deteriorating relationship with Egypt.
MOSCOW, December 2, 2015. Russian Public Opinion Research Centre (VCIOM) presents the results of the survey devoted to the tourism policies the government should adhere to, according to Russians.
According to the survey conducted after the introduction of ban on flights to Egypt, two-thirds of Russians (67%) believe it is important to focus on the development of the domestic tourism rather than increasing the security measures for the overseas trips (73% of respondents with income below average, 74% of respondents aged over 60; 76% of the CPRF electorate).
They are opposed by 25% of those who believe that the authorities should strengthen the security measures for Russians staying abroad. Most of those who think so are residents of big cities (39%), young Russians (36% of those who are aged 18-24), and non-parliamentary parties’ supporters (34%).
According to the data obtained during the previous surveys, 59% of Russians took vacation, but only 8% of them spent it abroad. Fourteen percent visited the Krasnodar region resorts; 6% travelled to Crimea; 14% spent their vacation in a Russian city or rural area.
The VCIOM opinion poll was conducted November 14-15, 2015; 1600 respondents were interviewed in 130 settlements in 46 regions of Russia. The margin of error does not exceed 3.5%.
