MOSCOW, April 19, 2010. Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VCIOM) presents the data describing the public's perception of government performance.
Russians consider increase of pensions, salaries and benefits to be the main achievement of the Russian government: the share of such respondents has increased from 7% to 13% over the recent year. Rarer Russians pointed out the adoption of anti-crisis plan (4%), development of the social sphere, reform of the army and the Ministry of Interior, successes in foreign policy (2% for each) and etc. Introduction of innovations was also included in the list of the Russian government successes (1%). The share of those who do not witness any positive outcome in government performance over the recent year has decreased (from 40 to 35%).
Russians rarer report crisis to be the basic fiasco of the government policy currently (6%), compared to the previous year (19%). However, unemployment (7%) and inflation (6%) were stated by respondents to be the main failures of government policies. Russians also mentioned lack of attention to sport and failures of social policy (4% for each), decreased standards of living and problems in housing and utilities sector (3% for each), lack of attention to agricultural sector, ineffective measures against corruption, national projects failure (2% for each) and etc. Compared to the previous year, new failures have appeared in the list of problems: instability in the country, problems in the enforcement bodies, decreased level of security, and accident at the Sayano-Shushenskaya GES (1% for each). However, 17% think there haven't been any failures in the government performance.
The initiative Russian opinion polls were conducted on March 6-7, 2010. 1600 respondents were interviewed at 140 sampling points in 42 regions of Russia. The margin of error does not exceed 3.4 %.
