Half of Muscovites are satisfied with the state of affaires in the capital.  Two-thirds of Moscow residents approve of the work of S.Sobyanin as the Moscow`s mayor.

MOSCOW, July 10, 2012. Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VCIOM) presents the data describing whether the Muscovites are satisfied with the state of affairs in Moscow, as well as how they assess the performance of Sergey Sobyanin as the mayor of Moscow.

Assessment of situation in the city

Half of Muscovites are satisfied with the state of affairs in the capital.  The level of satisfaction with the situation has been stable since August 2011 (46-51%); at the same time, the number of those who are dissatisfied is decreasing: from 53 to 44% over a year. Those who are satisfied most are respondents who are satisfied with the work of city and state administration (62-69%), as well as those who support the United Russia party (65-68%).

As to recent changes, the positive assessments prevail among Moscow residents:  half of respondents mark improvement of the situation in the capital and only 14% point out deterioration. The June 2012 assessments are the most positive over a year and a half. Young respondents (aged 18-24) are characterized by high degree of satisfaction with the situation (60%) and relatively low (38%) positive assessment of the changes which is a sign of high expectations. Positive evaluation goes down as the level of financial self-assessment decreases.

Assessment of the mayor`s performance

Two-thirds of Muscovites approve of the performance of S.Sobyanin as the Moscow`s mayor (68%). The older the respondents are and the higher their financial self-assessment is, the more often they evaluate the mayor`s performance positively: 75% of retired persons and those assessing their financial situation as good are satisfied with the work of the current mayor.

Among positive results of the work of Sobyanin respondents mentioned the improvement of road condition (30%), urban beautification (24%), and setting up more parking places (13%). Muscovites also pointed out solving children`s issues (9%), improving the situation of market stalls and marketplaces (7%).

Road condition question and situation of migrants are the major failures of the mayor (23% and 5%, respectively). Muscovites also mention no improvements in city`s infrastructure and situation in housing and communal services sector (4%, for each).

Sergey Sobyanin is perceived neutrally or positively by Muscovites. Generally, 25% of respondents have positive feelings about the mayor.  Twenty-one percent are indifferent; 8% are neutral; 7% express negative emotions. Among positive assessments respondents marked the following ones: 5% say Sobyanin is active; 4% say he deserves his place. Those who perceive him negatively say that he is not Muscovite and he is not independent (1%, for each).

Sergey Sobyanin is the leader of electoral preferences of Russians: 45% would support him in mayoral electionsHe is followed by M.Prokhorov (11%), A.Kudrin (5%), G.Yavlinsky (4%), A.Navalny, S.Mironov, G,Gudkov (2%, per each). Whereas the number of respondents supporting Sobyanin increases with age of respondents, M.Prokhorov is mostly appreciated by younger Russians.

The telephone surveys were conducted on June 23-25, 2012 in Moscow. 1200 respondents were interviewed. The margin of error does not exceed 3.4%.
