MOSCOW, November 8, 2007 Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VCIOM) presents information concerning what type of state would Russians like our country to be in the future.

Just as it used to be ten years ago, the public opinion now prefers the state with market economy and democratic state structure. The number of supporters of this way of development has a little reduced from 48% down to 42%. Nearly three times as few respondents express their willingness to live in a socialist state with communistic ideology some day - 16% (20% were of the same opinion in 1997). An absolutely special structure of state and a special way for Russia is much more popular, supported by 21% of respondents (18% agreed with them in 1997). The monarchists possess a marginal point of view as far as the ideal type of the state structure is concerned (3-6 %).

The older the respondents are, the more preferable a socialist state seems to them (ranging from 6-7% among the youth of 18-35 years of age up to 32% among the respondents aged 60 years and more) and the less attractive market economy and democracy seem to be (from 53-54% down to 22%).

The group of respondents with low estimation of own financial standing equally sympathizes with the ideas of the socialist state and that of the country with market economy and the democratic state structure (26-28%). Groups of respondents with high and average estimation of the same factor put the state structure with the market economy and democracy on the first place (46-48 %), whereas the second is occupied by an absolutely special structure (21-24%).

The supporters of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (53%) are the ones who most of all wish to build a socialist state; the state with market economy and democracy is more likely to be the choice of the "Unified Russia" (51%) and "Fair Russia" (46 %) voters and less often that of the LDPR voters (35%). Supporters of "Unified Russia" and LDPR consider a special way to be more suitable for the country than socialism (21-25% versus 10-14%), and supporters of "Fair Russia" find it less suitable (16% for a special way, 25% in favour of socialism).

The All-Russia opinion poll was conducted by VCIOM in August 18-19, 2007. 1600 respondents were interviewed in 153 population areas of 46 regions of Russia. The statistical error does not exceed 3.4%.
