Modern youth show the highest degree of social optimism.
MOSCOW, June 27, 2019. Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VCIOM) presents the findings of a survey describing the social mood of the Russian young people.
Compared to other age groups, modern young people are the most optimistic. More than half of respondents aged 18-24 (58%) and 25-34 (55%) say that they are satisfied with the life they are living. As to respondents over the age of 35, only those persons aged 60 and over show similar results (54%).
Young respondents generally expect an improvement in their life in the future (42% among those aged 18-24 and 33% among those aged 25-34). Another one-quarter of respondents aged 18-24 (25%) think that they live the same as they do now. Remarkably, this share is higher among the 25-34-year-olds (45%). The percentage of those young people who expect their life to get worse does not exceed 17% in the group of the 18-24-year-olds and 14% among the 25-34-year-olds.
Those who assess their personal life in a positive way are also young respondents (83% among those aged 18-24 and 75% among those aged 25-34).
VCIOM-Sputnik survey was conducted on May 25, 2019. The survey involved 1,600 Russians aged 18 and over. The survey was telephone-based and was carried out using stratified dual-frame random sample based on a complete list of landline and mobile phone numbers operating in Russia. The data were weighted according to selection probability and social and demographic characteristics. The margin of error at a 95% confidence level does not exceed 2.5%. In addition to sampling error, minor changes in question wording and different circumstances arising during the fieldwork can introduce bias into the survey.
