IN BRIEF

Most of Crimeans are satisfied with the current situation in their republic and the performance of Sergey Aksenov. Respondents are highly informed about the upcoming election to the State Council. Every second respondent is ready to take part in elections.

MOSCOW, September 02, 2019. Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VCIOM) presents a monitoring study devoted to social and political situation in the Republics of Ceriman.

Most of the Crimean residents (83%) are satisfied with the life they are living. Positive assessments are mainly reported by persons aged 35-44 (85%) and those over 60 (89%).

Every second respondent (56%) is satisfied with the economic situation; 43% oppose them. Respondents aged 45-59 are more likely to be more judgmental (52% of the dissatisfied persons).

Seventy-six percent of respondents are happy with the current state of affairs in the republic; they are mainly rural area residents (79%). Twenty percent of respondents show their dissatisfaction.

Over half of respondents view the recent changes in the situation in the republic positively: 63% say the situation has improved over a year; only 8% say it has deteriorated.

According to the survey findings, the major problems to be solved in the republic include income levels (65% are dissatisfied with their financial situation), and quality and availability of heath care services (58%). In addition, every second respondent (54%) is not satisfied with the situation in the labor market.

Respondents tend to view S. Aksenov, the head of the region, positively: 73% trust him. The same share of respondents would like S. Aksenov to remain in office.

The level of awareness of the Crimeans about the elections to the State Council to be held in September is high: most of residents (71%) are aware of the elections and say they are ready to participate in the voting (69%). Every second respondent is most likely to vote (48%).

Regional representative survey was conducted on August 19-21, 2019. The survey involved 1,600 residents of the Republic of Crimea aged 18 and over. The survey was telephone-based. The margin of error at a 95% confidence level does not exceed 2.5%. In addition to sampling error, minor changes in question wording and different circumstances arising during the fieldwork can introduce bias into the survey.
