More Russians are aware of the All-Russia People`s Front and consider that this organization was set up to improve the situation in the country.
MOSCOW, June 10, 2013. Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VCIOM) presents the data concerning how well Russians are informed about the All-Russia People`s Front, as well as how they assess its activity.
Over the recent two months the level of awareness of Russians about the All-Russia People’s Front (ONF) has increased (56% in June vs 47% in April 2013). Those who are most informed are Russians with high level of education (61%), respondents aged 45-59 (63%), Muscovites and St.Petersburgians, residents of million cities (61%, per each), supporters of CPRF and United Russia parties (50%, for each).
Forty-two percent of Russians did not hear anything about this organization; they are mainly young respondents aged 18 - 24 (53%), respondents with low level of education (63%), supporters of LDPR and A Just Russia party (50%).
Russians perceive the ONF basically as a national union for solving problems (17%). War actions and guerillas come to the mind of 9% of Russians. Other 6% associate the ONF with the protection of the interests of ordinary people; for 5% the ONF is associated with the party of Putin. Respondents also mentioned fight for justice, rallies and demonstrations, United Russia, and new political party (4%, per each group).
More Russians think that the ONF was created to improve the situation in the country and to help ordinary people. The share of those who share this stance has doubled compared to November 2012 (19% vs 8%). On the contrary, less Russians believe that the organization was established to strengthen the United Russia party before the election (6%). Some believe that the ONF was set up to strengthen the Putin`s support (5%) or to be an alternative to the United Russia party (3%). Rarer respondents cite such purposes as budget money laundering, manipulating people, unifying people, fighting against the existing power, or fighting against corruption (2%, for each).
Those respondents who are well informed are indifferent to the ONF`s activity (50%). This share made up 56% a year ago. The number of the positive assessments as well as the number of the negative ones are stable (29% and 9%, respectively).
The basic activities that the ONF should perform are to report to the president about what is happening in the country and to control the implementation of the President`s decrees (73% and 71, respectively). Many Russians also believe that the ONF should organize meetings with the public, workers` associations to discuss the most important problems and to find solutions (69%). Those who are least informed about the ONF`s activity tend to think that the ONF should be registered as a party to participate in elections (40%).
The key tasks the ONF should tackle is improving the housing and utilities services (54%), creating and modernizing 25 million of workplaces during eight years (44%), and increasing budget workers` salaries (37%). Other problems to be handled are eliminating queues at kindergartens, increasing budget workers’ salaries (doctors, teachers) up to the regional average (36%, for each), and designing a project to reform the pension system (35%).
Priority areas of work of the ONF include corruption and bureaucracy (47%), situation in the housing sector (39%), situation in the healthcare system (29%). This is followed by the problem of low living standards (27%), inflation (20%), unemployment (20%), pension provision (19%), and situation of youth (16%).
The VCIOM opinion polls were conducted on June 1-2, 2013. 1600 respondents were interviewed in 130 communities in 42 regions of Russia. The margin of error does not exceed 3.4%.
