Russians believe that Georgia has very old history and its culture is very close to the Russian one; however Georgia is unfriendly towards Russia!
MOSCOW, January 30, 2014. Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VCIOM) presents the data concerning the way that Russians see Georgia and values that Russians think are the most important for Georgians.
The first thing that comes to the minds of Russians when thinking about Georogia is numerous cultural achievents (37%). Almost one-third of respondents (29%) are confident that Russia and Georgia have similar cultural traditions. Thirty-two percent of Russians suspect unfriendliness towards Russia.
Other 28% agree that the wealth and poverty co-exist in this country. Every fourth Russian (26%) believes that democratic values are more important for Georgians than a strong power. Twenty-four percent of respondents portray Georgians as people who do things on a large scale and have fantasy.
More than one-third of Russians (39%) say that Georgian authorities do not work properly. According to 38% of respondents, the livings conditions in this country are far from being good. Respondents also doubt that Georgia`s world influence is growing (35%) and that its economy is developing quickly (33%). Georgia suffers from crime, alcohol addiction and corruption (21%); the same share of respondents says that there are no such problems in the country (21%).
The major values of Georgian people are tradition and family (63% and 53%, respectively). One-third of respondents (35%) mention pride. Georgians are religious (16%); they like freedom (13%), respect the law (11%); they are entrepreneurial (11%) and that they have honor (9%) and et cet.
The VCIOM opinion poll was conducted on November 2-3, 2013. 1600 respondents were interviewed in 130 communities in 42 regions of Russia. The margin of error does not exceed 3.4%.
