Most of cinema-goers like 3D movies. The one that they liked most is Avatar.
MOSCOW, March 9, 2011. Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VCIOM) presents the data describing how often Russian go to cinema, whether they watched 3D movies and which ones they liked.
The interest of Russians towards going to the cinema has grown again: the share of those who do it regularly (not rarer than several times per year) has increased from 20% in August previous year to 26% in February this year. The most active cinema-goers are Muscovites and St.Petersburgians (48%), men (31%), 18-24-year-old Russians (59%), those with high level of education (37%), internet users (49%), and respodnents with high income (47%).
Fourteen percent of respondents visit cinema from time to time - not more than once per year; 42% of Russians almost never go to cinema. However, the share of such respondents has reached the minimum for the entire period of measurement (to compare: in 2008 there were 54%). And finally, 16% of respondents report they have never been to the cinema.
Sixty-four percent of cinema-goers saw 3D movies, and the majority of them (48%) enjoyed watching 3D movies. Most of them are Russians aged 18-24 (62%), those with high level of income (52%), and metropolitan residents (56%). Only 16% report they were not impressed by 3D movies: they are 25-34-year-old Russians (20%), those with low level of education (31%) and rural area residents (19%). One-third of respondents (34%) say they did not watch 3D movies: most of them are aged above 45 (53-56%), with low level of education (46%) and rural area residents (42%). And finally, 2% do not know what 3D movies are.
Avatar is top one 3D film popular among Russians: it was watched by 35% respondents, who saw 3D movies. Russians also mentioned Shrek (6%), Sanctum, and Resident Evil (4% for each). This is followed by Gulliver`s Travels, Nutcracker, Best Movie, Piranha, Rapunzel, the Chronicles of Narnia, Alice in Wonderland, Tron (3% for each), How to Train Your Dragon, Three Heroes and Shamahanskaya Queen, Harry Potter, The Green Hornet, Christmas Story, Step Forward (2% for each) and others.
The initiative Russian opinion polls were conducted on 19-20 February, 2011. 1600 respondents were interviewed at 138 sampling points in 46 regions of Russia. The margin of error does not exceed 3.4%.
