19 August 2021. VCIOM presents the data of a survey among Crimeans on the situation in the Republic of Crimea.

Seven years after the Crimea’s unification with Russia Crimeans were asked how they would respond to the referendum questions.

A vast majority of Crimeans (88%) would support the Crimea’s incorporation into Russia; 5% would support the autonomous status as part of Ukraine; 7% remained undecided.

Ninety-three percent of Crimeans perceive positively Crimea’s unification with Russia; 4% express negative views.

When asked to assess the situation in Crimea as part of Ukraine and as part of Russia, an overwhelming majority of the peninsula residents (89%) consider that now that Crimea is part of Russia the peninsula is actively developing; 2% believe that it was successfully developing when it was part of Ukraine; 4% say neither then nor now Crimea is developing.

Most of Crimeans (70%) say that the Crimea’s unification with Russia has had positive effects on their life and the life of their family; 16% say there have been no changes; 9% point to negative impacts.

Three-quarters of Crimeans are satisfied with the situation in Crimea (75%); 21% oppose them. Most of respondents (85%) point out that over the recent seven years the situation in the republic has improved; only 5% point to deterioration.

As to the perceptions of the opportunities in different life spheres, what is favored most is the opportunity to live in personal safety (85%) and good environmental conditions (76%). About half of respondents say they have enough opportunities to keep heathy (59%), to have interesting leisure activities (55%) and good education (54%).

Russian nationwide VCIOM-Sputnik survey was conducted on August 11-12, 2021. A total of 1,600 of residents of Crimea and Sevastopol aged 18 and older took part in the survey. Results are based on telephone interviews. The data were weighted according to selection probability and social and demographic characteristics. The margin of error at a 95% confidence level does not exceed 2.5%. In addition to sampling error, minor changes to the wording of questions and different circumstances arising during the fieldwork can introduce bias into the survey.

In March 2014, a referendum on the fate of Crimea was held. If a referendum with the same questions as seven years ago took place next Sunday, which option would you choose? (closed-ended question, one question,  % of respondents)
