MOSCOW, December 07, 2007 Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VCIOM) presents information concerning Russians' attitude to the activity of a number of state and social institutions.

The work of mass media and the army was estimated rather positively in January to November this year, whereas the activity of political parties, trade unions, law enforcement bodies and of the judicial system was more likely to cause negative estimation. As for the Public chamber, the respondents' estimations split into two approximately equal parts.

Mass media arouse the most positive emotions out of all public institutions. 51-57% of respondents estimated their work for the last 11 months with a "plus" sign, whereas 29-33% thought negatively of their activity. 52% of positive and 30% of negative responses were noted in November.

Political parties seem to be permanently causing negative attitude of the population: 18-26% of respondents are in favour of their work in January - November, while 43-53% do not approve of their activity. The balance of estimations according to this criterion was the least favorable in February to March (+19%,-51% and +18%,-53%), however, in November it was rather favorable: +26%,-44%.

The activity of trade unions is only a little better rerceived by the people totalling 19-27% of positive responses versus 37-44% negative ones. The maximum number of positive responses was noted in November (+27,-37%).

The attitude to the work of the Public chamber in January to November was mostly neutral, with light negative shading to it. Positive estimations during all this time amounted to 23% to 27%, negative ones ranged from 24% to 28%; in November this share accounted for +24%,-28%. Every second respondent (48-51%) found it hard to provide an assessment of the work of this institution.

Activity of the army is traditionally more likely to arouse approval (41-46% of positive responses versus 34-38% negative ones, November balance of estimations amounted to +43 %,-34 %). As usual, the work of law enforcement bodies causes traditional discontent. The share of positive estimations ranges from 28% to 33%, negative evaluations totalled to 47% to 53%. 33% of respondents approved of the activity of this institute in November this year, whereas 47% do not quite agree with them on the issue.

Responses related to the work of the judicial system tend to be more optimistic: 23-28% of positive estimations, 39-46% of negative ones; the most favorable estimation of the judicial system for the last 11 months was noted in November, that being +28%,-39%.

The all-Russia opinion polls were conducted by VCIOM in January - November, 2007. Each time 1600 respondents were interviewed in 153 population areas of 46 regions of Russia. The statistical error does not exceed 3.4%.
