Russians are in favor of stable evolutional reforms rather than quick radical changes. The number of the revolutionaries has increased over the recent three years; however they are in the minority.
MOSCOW, January 18, 2012. Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VCIOM) presents the data the Russians` attitudes toward the direction of the country`s development – evolutional changes or quick reforms.
The majority of Russians are confident that the country needs stability and evolutional changes (53%). This point of view has recently become more popular (2008-2011) than before (in 2004-2005 the share was 48-49%). The number of those who support quick and radical changes is 39% (three years ago - 30%).
Those who are in favor of steady reforms are basically adherents of United Russia party (62%), women (57%), residents of big cities (57%). On the contrary, those who think that Russia needs quick changes are mainly supporters of LDPR (56%), men (45%) and those with low level of income (43%).
Compared with elderly respondents, young Russians tend to choose cardinal changes (40-43% versus 35, respectively). On the contrary, respondents older than 70 support the steady, evolutional changes (57% versus 50% among the young respondents).
The initiative Russian opinion polls were conducted December 17-18, 2011. 1600 respondents were interviewed at 138 sampling points in 46 regions of Russia. The margin of error does not exceed 3.4%.
