IN BRIEF

Putin`s job approval ratings exceeded 80% against the backdrop of Russia`s annexation of Crimea.

MOSCOW, March 27, 2014. Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VCIOM) presents the president`s job approval ratings and electoral rating of the United Russia party.

At the end of March the V. Putin`s job approval rating reached a new maximum of 82.3%. It is tied to the Russia`s annexation of Crimea and the situation in Ukraine (for 71% respondents these events are the most important ones).

The presidential approval ratings keep growing for the second consecutive month. Over the recent week the rating has increased from 75.7% to 82.3%; since the beginning of the year it has increased by one-quarter (from 60.6% in January to 74.4% in March). Thus, the current rating is close to the rating of February 2008  (82.9%).

Residents of Moscow and St.Petersburg rate the work of the president lower than Russians in general. However, in recent months the level of presidential approval has considerably increased among residents of Moscow and St.Petersburg and reached its maximum in six years (81.5%).

The electoral rating of the United Russia party has also grown over the recent several months and reached the highest levels in five years (56.2%). The electoral rating of this party has stayed at 45% for the second consecutive year.

The VCIOM opinion poll was conducted on March 22-23, 2014. 1600 respondents were interviewed in 130 communities in 42 regions of Russia. Data are weighted by gender, age, education, working status and type of settlement.  The margin of error does not exceed 3.4%.
