IN BRIEF

A.Ovechkin’s initiative was supported by two-thirds of Russians.

MOSCOW, November 16, 2017. The Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VCIOM) presents the data of a survey devoted to the attitudes of Russians towards the creation of ‘Putin Team’ initiated by Alex Ovechkin.

‘Putin Team’ movement created by Alex Ovechkin has not become widely known (17% of respondents said they knew what it was during the survey), however the idea to create the movement was supported by most of Russians (68% of approvals). Those who are more supportive are older respondents and residents of small towns and rural area. Only 6% perceive the idea with skepticism; 22% are indifferent.

As the survey data suggest, Ovechkin is the most popular hockey player in Russia (he gained most of liking scores; 16% recalled his name without prompting). The emption he evokes in respodnents are mainly positive and neutral: respect (30%), liking (18%), and indifference (20%).

The VCIOM-Sputnik Russian nationwide survey was conducted on November 10-12, 2017. The survey involved 1,800 Russians aged 18 and over, and was carried out using stratified dual-frame random sample based on a complete list of landline and mobile phone numbers operating in Russia. The data were weighted according to selection probability and social and demographic characteristics. The margin of error at a 95% confidence level does not exceed 2.5%. In addition to sampling error, minor changes in question wording and different circumstances arising during the fieldwork can introduce bias into the survey.
