MOSCOW, October 09, 2007 Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VCIOM) presents information concerning how Russians estimate V. Putin's decision to head the pre-electory list of Unified Russia and whether this decision has affected their own political preference.
V. Putin's decision to become the № 1 on the Unified Russia's party list has added 6% of supporters to those who were already resolved to vote for it. If 48% of respondents expressed their eagerness to vote for it on September 29-30, then on October 5-6 already as much as 54% did. This is now the historical maximum of supporters that Unified Russia has as yet enjoyed, considering the entire period of measurements (starting from 2002).
Electoral support of other political parties remained practically unchanged during this week: the number of respondents supporting the Communist party, KPRF amounts to 6% (it used to be 7%), 5% expressed their intention to vote for LDPR (it was just as many), 3% support Fair Russia (it used to be 4%). Other parties did not manage to gather more than 1% of vote. 13% of respondents are not planning to vote at the elections at all.
The share of those respondents who are willing to give their vote to Vladimir Putin if the presidential elections were to take place this Sunday, has also risen by 6% (from 60% to 66%). Other presidential contenders are considerably lagging behind: D. Medvedev would get 4% of the vote, V. Zhirinovsky 3% and other politicians no more than 2%.
The level of approval of V. Putin's political activity as President of our country has also remained practically unchanged during the week: the overwhelming majority, 83%, evaluate his work positively, whereas 10% negatively. Among the voters of Unified Russia and Fair Russia its activity receives more approval (+95%, -3% and +80%, -16%), than among the supporters of LDPR and the Communist Party, KPRF (+68%, -18% and +58%, -25%); at the same time the majority of voters supporting all these parties approve of the President's political activity.
The initiative all-Russia opinion poll was conducted by VCIOM on October 6-7, 2007. 1600 respondents were interviewed in 153 population areas of 46 regions of Russia. The statistical error does not exceed 3.4%.
