IN BRIEF

The expected voter turnout in the Pridnestrovie’s presidential elections is 80%.

MOSCOW, September 7, 2016.  Russian Public Opinion Research Centre (VCIOM) presents the data of the survey describing which presidential candidate the residents of Pridnesntrovie would vote for; which party the residents with Russian citizenship would vote for during the Russian State Duma elections.

The levels of the expected voter turnout in the PMR are extremely high:  80% of residents say they would like to take part in elections (if the elections take place in the near future).

Most of those who are ready to take part in elections would cast their vote for V.N. Krasnoselsky, Chairman of the Supreme Court of the PMR: 25% would rather support him among all the candidates running for president. There are half as many supporters of E.V. Shevchuk (14%). Other candidates are supported by 1 – 6% of respondents.

An overwhelming majority of the residents of the republic (88%) are aware that the Russian citizens who live in the PMR can take part in the Russian State Duma elections. Almost three-thirds of residents (72%) who have Russian passport can participate in elections. Most of them will cast their vote for the “United Russia” party (71%).

The survey among the voters in the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic was conducted by VCIOM on August 29-31, 2016 in all administrative units of the republic. A total number of 1200 respondents were surveyed. The sample is random and based on quotas according to type of settlement, sex and age. The survey method is structured telephone interviews. The margin of error (taking into account the design effect) with 95% confidence interval does not exceed 2.8%.
