MOSCOW, December 14, 2009. Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VCIOM) presents the data concerning Ukraine urban population survey on presidential election scheduled for January.
Most of Ukrainians are planning to vote in the next presidential election (89%): 70% - definitely participate, and 19% - rather participate. Residents of the Eastern region of Ukraine have the highest electoral activity (91%). Only every tenth is not going to participate in the vote: 6% - rather no, 3% - definitely no.
If the presidential election took place next Sunday, the overwhelming majority of respondents would vote for Victor Yanukovich (34%). Supported by the inhabitants of the Eastern part of the country (47%) V.Yanukovich is followed by S.Tigipko (11%) and Y.Tymoshenko (10%); Tymochenko is primarily supported by residents of the Western region of Ukraine - 19%.The least popular candidates are A.Yatsenyuk (6%, mostly supported by westerners - 10%), P.Simonenko (3%), V.Litvin, O.Tyagnibok (2% for each) and others. The current president of Ukraine Victor Yushchenko is supported by only 3% of respondents. Seven percent of Ukrainians report they would vote against all.
In 49% of cases under no circumstance would residents of Ukraine vote for V.Yushchenko (most of them live in eastern Ukraine - 63%). The second place in the "antirating" is held by Y.Tymoshenko (38%), the third place is held by V.Yanukovich (18%) followed by I.Bogoslovskaya, A.Moroz, B.Protyvsikh (7% for each), O.Tyagnibok, A.Yatsenyuk (6% for each), V.Litvin (5%), S.Ratushnyak (4%), M.Brodsky (2%) and others.
Ukrainians are willing to see V.Yanukovich (45%) and S.Tigipko (27%) in the second election round. They are followed by Y.Timoshenko (19%), A.Yatsenyuk (17%), V.Litvin (8%), P.Simonenko (7%) and others. Eleven respondents reported there are no such candidates.
Among new politicians Ukrainians mention S.Tigipko (31%) and A.Yatsenyuk (23%) as candidates to take part in presidential election. They are followed by O.Tyagnibok (6%), Y.Lutsenko (4%), L.Chernovetsky (2%), N.Katerinchuk, V.Kirilenko (1% for each) and others. Twenty-nine percent of respondents do not know such politicians.
If special election to the Verkhovna Rada took place, Ukrainians would vote for the Party of regions headed by Viktor Yanukovich (supported by 36%). The rest of parties and political blocs are less popular: only 9% (for each) would vote for S.Tigipko and Y.Tymoshenko, 6% would support A.Yatsenyuk`s "Front Zmin", 4% - the Communist party of Ukraine (P.Simonenko), 3% - V.Litvin`s bloc and etc. Six percent of respondents would vote "against all".
The initiative opinion polls were conducted on December 1-7, 2009 in Ukraine. 1200 respondents were interviewed in 40 cities with populations of 100000 and more. The margin of error does not exceed 4%.
