MOSCOWMay, 29, 2007. Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VCIOM) submits information concerning the ideological and political parties Russians are in sympathy with and whether Russians' ideological views match with their political and party preferences.

In general we managed to identify ideological and political views of 71% of respondents. Others said they are not interested in politics at all (19%), were in difficulty to answer (8%) or have identified their views as ‘other' (1%).

The most popular ideas among politicized part of Russians are the following political ideals: ‘strong and socially-oriented state' (26%), ‘strong state and market economy' (19%) and ‘communism' (12%). Other three doctrines are supported only by a handful of respondents (4% per each). Those doctrines are ‘other left-wingers, including socialists and social-democrats', ‘Russian nationalists' and ‘democrats and human rights activists'. The most unpopular ones are ‘orthodox monarchists' (1%) and ‘ultraliberals - libertarianists' (1%).

In general left-wing ideas of different kind find support of 42% of Russians, right-wing ideas are supported by 24%, 6% of respondents support the ideas of Russian national patriotism.

During last year ideological and political views of Russians have not changed much. The main change is increase of right-wing conservative ideology (‘strong state and market economy') supporters (from 15% up to 19%)

The dependence between the claimed ideological and political views and their electoral choice is not common. The mostly ideologically unified ones are the supporters of Communist Party of Russian Federation (KPRF). 76% of Communist Party electorate identify communism as their socio-political ideal, 9% are the supporters of ‘strong and socially-oriented state' idea and 5% are the supporters of ‘strong state and market economy'.

The ideological type of ‘Fair Russia' party electorate is more blurry. 38% of that electorate like the idea of socially-oriented state and 17% are more likely supporters of strong state and market economy. There are also supporters of ‘other left-wingers' (9%) and ‘Russian nationalists' (7%) among them.

Liberal democratic party of Russia  (LDPR) electorate chooses ‘strong and socially-oriented state' (26%), ‘strong state and market economy' (15%), ‘Russian nationalists' (12%) and even communism (6%).

‘Unified Russia' electorate almost equally chooses ideologies of ‘strong and socially-oriented state' (31%) and ‘strong state and market economy' (27%). Other ideologies including communism and Russian nationalism are represented by small groups of this party electorate (2-5% of supporters per each.

The supporters of ‘strong and socially-oriented state' make the comparative majority among all age groups except for the youngest one of 18-24 years old and the most senior one of 60+ years old. Respondents of 60 years old and older equally choose between ‘strong and socially-oriented state' idea and communism (24% per each idea). Youth more likely prefers ‘strong state and market economy' (27%), 18% of them support strong social state and 26% of them are not interested in politics at all, which makes the largest part of this category.
