MOSCOW, 18 November 2022. Russian Public Opinion Research Centre presents the findings of a study commissioned by Social Research Expert Institute; the study highlights the Russian attitudes towards assigning the honorary titles to a number of the Russian cities.
On November 15, a meeting of Pobeda Organizing Committees chaired by V.Putin was held. One of the initiatives was to assign honorary titles to a number of cities.
Seventy-six percent of Russians are informed that certain Russian cities were awarded the City of Labor Valour title and the City of Military Glory title. A quarter of respondents heard about it for the first time (24%).
More than half of Russians are aware that Vladimir Putin signed the decrees on conferring the City of Military Glory title on Mariupol and Melitopol and the City of Labor Valour title on another nine Russian cities (including Gorlovka and Luhansk) (56%). Forty-four percent of Russians heard about it for the first time during the survey.
Most of Russians positively perceive the idea to assign the honorary titles to the cities that have recently become part of Russia (Mariupol, Melitopol, Gorlovka, Luhansk) (64%); 5% express negative views; 25% remain indifferent. Six percent are undecided.
There are three reasons why the initiative was supported (among those who express favorable views): a well-deserved award (15%); huge contribution of these cities during the Great Patriotic War (10%); staying for long under shelling (9%).
“Sputnik” Russian nationwide telephone survey was commissioned by Social Research Expert Institute (EISI) and conducted on 17 November, 2022. A total of 1,600 Russians aged 18 and over took part in the survey. Survey method: telephone interviews, stratified random sample based on a complete list mobile phone numbers in use in Russia. The data were weighted according to social and demographic characteristics. The margin of error at a 95% confidence level does not exceed 2.5%. In addition to sampling error, minor changes to the wording of questions and different circumstances arising during the fieldwork can introduce bias into the survey.
Key effectiveness indicators, November 17, 2022 survey: cooperation rate (CR)* = 0.7882; minimum response rate (MRR)** = 0.0205; response rate (RR)*** = 0.1315. Based on corporate standards: https://profi.wciom.ru/principy_standarty/korporativnyj-standart-po-izmereniyu-rezultativnosti-oprosov-sputnik-vciom/
* CR: the number of complete interviews divided by the sum of: а) complete interviews and b) non-interviews with eligible respondents.
** MRR: the number of complete interviews divided by the sum of: а) complete interviews, b) interrupted interviews after successful screening and c) all the respondents where it is unknown whether they meet the selected criteria or not.
** RR is calculated in the same way as MRR, with the only difference that the number of respondents with unknown eligibility decreases proportional to the percentage of eligible cases in the total number of respondents with identified eligibility or non-eligibility.
