Russian patriotism means loving your country and family, rather than authorities and state.
MOSCOW, June 23, 2010. Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VCIOM) presents the information whether Russians treat themselves as patriots, and what they think the patriotism is.
Russians oppose extending draft age: 67% do not support the proposal of Russian Ministry of Defense to extend military age from 27 to 30, given that 44% totally disapprove this initiative. They are basically LDPR (72%) and United Russia (71%) parties` supporters, respondents aged under 44 (70-73%), and residents of central regions of Russia (71%).
The proposal to extend draft age is supported by only every fifth Russian (21% respondents): 8% - "definitely support" and 13% - "rather support". They are mainly CPRF and Fair Russia parties' adherents (31% for each), elderly respondents (28%), Siberians (25%), far-easterners (26%) and residents of North-Western part of Russia (27%).
The proposal is also approved by male respondents, rather than female (23 versus 19%).
The initiative Russian opinion polls were conducted on June 5-6, 2010. 1600 respondents were interviewed at 140 sampling points in 42 regions of Russia. The marginof error does not exceed 3.4 %.
