MOSCOWJuly 16, 2009. Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VCIOM) presents the data describing how Russians assess the decision of Vladimir V. Putin about the resumption of work of Pikalevo loss-making plants, as well as attitudes of people with regards to nationalization of enterprises on the background of global economic crisis.

Pupulation tends to assess positively decision of  Russian Prime-minister Vladimir V. Putin about the resumtion of work of loss-making enterprises of the city of Pikalevo: 40% think that this is a right measure; 44% of respondents think it is temporary and advise further nationalization of all private enterprises in the city. Only 5% do not approve of the governmental decision. Those who think that Putin took the right decision are mostly CPRF (communist) electorate (51%), inhabitants of middle-sized and small cities (42-43%). Those who consider it necessary to nationalize such enterprises are mostly LDPR and "Fair Russia" parties` supporters (52% and 50% respectively), as well as residents of big and middle-sized cities (48-49%). Those who negatively assess the decision taken by the prime-minister are mainly supporters of democrats (15%).

 

Compared with 2008, Russians more often mention the need for nationalization of private enterprises to overcome the current crisis:whereas in October there were  58% of such respondents (28% - completely agree, 30% - rather agree), now this share increased and reached 82% (44% and 38% respectively). Most of those who support the idea of nationalization reside in small cities and rural area (84-86%) and have low level of income (86%). At the same time, the share of those who oppose the idea of nationalization of industrial enterprises has decreased: 7% (5% - rather disagree, 2% - completely disagree) against 20% in October 2008 (13% and 7% respectively).

 

The initiative Russian opinion poll was conducted on June 20-21, 2009. 

1600 respondents were interviewed at 140 sampling points in 42 regions of Russia.

The margin of error does not exceed 3.4%.

 

To help people facing difficult situation, Vladimir V. Putin made the factory owners resume the work of loss-making enterprises. In your opinion, how much effective is this solution?

Putin`s decision is only a temporary measure that does not change the situation fundamentally.  To help solve the situation, the Pikalevo private enterprises should be nationalized and state-budget financed
