According to Russian women, physical appearance is not the most important thing men should have. What are prized above all are reliability, kindness and intelligence.

MOSCOW, February 21, 2013. Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VCIOM) presents the data describing what characters Russian women appreciate most in men.

Russian women believe that reliability is the most important value men should have (31% of women). Top ten most important masculine traits involve kindness (17%), intelligence (16%), decency (15%), honesty (14%), masculinity (13%), courtesy and respect (12%), diligence (10%), and responsibility (9%).

Russians also appreciate fidelity (8%), easy-going character (6%), absence of bad habits, and material well-being   (5%, for each). The shares of those who prize courtesy, thrift and generosity are 3% (per each group); those who appreciate such traits as tidiness, ability to be a good family man, and steadiness are 2% (per each group).

Remarkably, appearance, beauty and physical attractiveness are far from being important for Russian women (mentioned by 8% of respondents).  Reliability is cited mostly by 25-34-year-old women (37%); appearance is important for 18-24-year-old girls (16%); diligence is prized mainly by elderly respondents (15%). 

The initiative Russian opinion polls were conducted on February 9-10, 2013. 1600 respondents were interviewed at 138 sampling points in 46 regions of Russia. The margin of error does not exceed 3.4%.
