IN BRIEF

When changing jobs every fifth Russian pays attention to convenient workplace, and every tenth – to prestigious position.

MOSCOW, May 13, 2015. Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VCIOM) presents the results of the survey describing how often Russians change their jobs, and what motivates them to do that.

The mobility of labor in Russian society is low: two-thirds of working Russians (66%) have not changed their jobs over the recent three months (to compare: this share made up 57% in 2014; 61% in 2004). Those who do not change jobs are mainly elderly respondents (75% of persons aged 45 - 59) and university graduates (70%), rather than 25-34-year-olds (57%) and those who have low level of education (33%). Thirty-four percent of respondents have changed their jobs over the same period: including 20% of those who changed their jobs only once, 11% of those who did it two or three times, and 3% of those who changed four and more companies.

When searching for a job most of people pay attention to the salary size (63% of Russians). This is followed by convenient hours and location (25%). Every fifth appreciates social benefits (20%) and well–equipped workplace (20%). Self-realization and career opportunities are important for 18% of respondents (33% of 18-24-year-olds, 28% of residents of Moscow and St. Petersburg); at the same time, the share of such people has decreased from 27% since 2014.

Official employment and extra social benefits are important for 14% of respondents. Every tenth (11%) pays attention to pension contributions. Other people assess jobs in terms of prestige (10%) and work load (8%). Least important thing is relationships with colleagues (only 7% of respondents).

The VCIOM opinion poll was conducted April 18-19, 2015; 1600 respondents were interviewed in 132 communities in 46 regions of Russia. The margin of error does not exceed 3.5%.
