MOSCOW, May 21, 2009. Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VCIOM) presents the data describing the attitudes of Russians on which state authorities - local or federal - give more adequate assessment of the situation in the country, and which ones offer more effective measures to combat the economic crisis.
The attitudes of Russians regarding which state bodies - local or federal - assess the situation in Russia more truthfully have dramatically changed. If in 1999 Russians thought that the local authorities were more honest than the federal ones (33% against 14%), then now Russians have right opposite point of view: they consider that assessment of situation by federal authorities is more adequate (34%), than the assessment of local authority bodies (12%). The share of those who think that neither federal nor local authorities provide truthful evaluation is 40%; 14% were undecided.
Compared to 1999, Russians have also changed their opinion concerning which state authorities suggest more effective measures to combat crisis. Russians think that federal authorities' measures are more effective, than measures offered by the local ones (39% against 7%). It should be noted that in 1999 Russians had the opposite point of view - 16% against 26%. Thirty-eight per cent of Russians, in their turn, consider that neither federal nor local authority bodies give any adequate anti-crisis proposals (ten years ago - 43%); 16% were undecided.
Siberians and Far Eastern residents are inclined to think that federal bodies give more truthful information about the situation in the country (44% and 42% respectively) and offer more effective ways to overcome the crisis (49% and 45% respectively). On the contrary, Southerners and North Western Federal Districts residents more often than others mention local authority bodies to provide truthful evaluation of the situation in the country (19% and 17% respectively) and to offer more effective anti-crisis measures (13% and 10% respectively). Residents of the Central Federal District tend to say that neither of these bodies assess the situation in Russia adequately (49%) and offer effective anti-crisis measures (46%).
The "United Russia" party supporters tend to say that federal authorities give more honest assessment of the situation (42%) and offer more effective anti-crisis measures (47%). The Democrats` electorate consider local authorities to provide more truthful assessment and to offer more effective ways to combat crisis (25% and 19% respectively).
