More than half of Russians view positively the situation in the country. Social well-being has reached its highest levels since early 2019.
MOSCOW, November 26, 2019. Russian Public Opinion Research Centre (VCIOM) presents the data of a monitoring survey about the views on the situation in Russia.
More than half of Russians (57%) positively view the current situation in Russia. Thirty-five percent of respondents are skeptical.
Every second Russian is satisfied with the life he/she is living (50%); this is the highest percentage of the last twelve months. The share of those who are partly satisfied is 25%; 22% are dissatisfied.
The number of respondents who are afraid that their life will get worse has decreased over a year: 23% of Russians are pessimistic about the future. A relative majority of respondents expect no changes (41%). Every fourth is optimistic about the future (25%).
Half of respondents (48%) experience anxiety or worry when they think about the future but there is a tendency towards a decline. Over the recent months the anxiety levels have decreased by 3 p.p. Every fourth reports to be optimistic about the future (26%); almost the same number of Russians (23%) experience neither optimism, nor anxiety.
Nationwide VCIOM-Sputnik surveys were conducted October 30-31, 2019. Results are based on telephone interviews with 1,600 Russians aged 18 and older. A stratified dual-frame random sample based on a complete list of Russian landline and mobile phone numbers is used. The data were weighted according to selection probability and social and demographic characteristics. The margin of error at a 95% confidence level does not exceed 2.5%. In addition to sampling error, minor changes in question wording and different circumstances arising during the fieldwork can introduce bias into the survey.
