Russians entrepreneurs are more concerned over regional business players rather than competition and lack of labor force (74% versus 65 and 62% respectively).

 

MOSCOW, May 27, 2010. Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VCIOM) presents the data of the yearly opinion poll on problems of Russian business. The opinion poll commissioned by the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs was conducted in August-September 2009 among top managers and owners of private companies operating in industry and construction, transport and communications, service and trade spheres.  

Most of entrepreneurs report their business is successfully developing (43%). However, 26% of respondents oppose this stance.  The average score on 7-point scale makes up 4.27, which is slightly higher than the average score is. Over the recent two years since the first wave of polling, the average score of the integrated business assessment has reduced from 4.64 to 4.27, which is due to the reduction of positive assessment (5-7 scores) from 56 to 43 % and the increase of the number of the negative assessment (1-3 scores) from 15 to 26 %, and average scores maximum: 4% were pointed out by 32 % of businessmen. In 2008 the share of respondents reporting moderately positive assessment (5 scores) were 37 %.

 

As to future perspectives for business for the next 2 or 3 years, the most important problem that entrepreneurs expect is actions by regional business actors (74%).This is followed by the increased competition (65%), and lack of professional staff ranked third (62%). More than half of respondents (55 %) expect problems related to the access to financial resources. Entrepreneurs also mentioned problems dealing with the access to high technologies (43%), maintenance (42%), and energy resources (40%).

 

Those who expect to face lack of professional staff are mainly enterprises with foreign investment (70 versus 60 %), state or local government owned enterprises (70 versus 60 %), as well as industry and construction enterprises (66 % versus 55-58 in other sectors).

 

The opinion polls were commissioned by the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs in and conducted in August-September 2009.  1200 entrepreneurs (large, middle and small enterprises) representing three 3 economic macro sectors (industry and construction, transport and communications, service and trade) were interviewed in 40 regions of Russia.
