An overwhelming majority of Russians supported the Immortal Regiment action and believe that the action should be carried out regularly.

MOSCOW, May 12, 2015. Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VCIOM) presents the results of the survey describing how many Russians heard of the Immortal regiment march, how they assess the action, and whether they are ready to take part in it next year.  

The Immotal regiment action that took place in many cities of Russia became widely known: 93% of Russians heard of it, 13% marched the streets with portraits of the relatives.

Russians unanimously approve of the action (96%). Most of respondents (95%) appreciated the fact the Russian president took part in the action.

According to three-quarters of Russians (73%), the action helps preserve the memory of the war and heroic deeds of soldiers. Four percent think that the action is a tribute to the winners (4%); it fosters the patriotic spirit (4%) and helps educating young generations (5%).

More than 90% of respondents support the proposal to hold this action all across Russia in the framework of the May 9th celebrations. Sixty percent of respondents would like to take part in this action next year; they are mainly young respondents (67% of those aged 18-24) and those who graduated from the universities (65%).

The VCIOM opinion poll was conducted May 16-17, 2015; 1600 respondents were interviewed in 132 communities in 46 regions of Russia. The margin of error does not exceed 3.5%.          

The Immortal Regiment march was part of the Moscow Parade celebrations devoted to the anniversary of the Great Patriotic War; the action involved hundreds of people carrying portraits of their relatives who participated in the war.
