Every second Russian considers that the Government can tackle the crisis.
MOSCOW, March 31, 2016. Russian Public Opinion Research Centre (VCIOM) presents the data of the survey describing the Russian assessments of the government actions to combat the economic crisis.
A vast majority of Russians are confident that the government is capable of tackling the economic crisis. According to the opinion poll data, 55% of Russians think that Russian ministers have a deliberate plan to lead the country out of crisis; they are opposed by 32% of respondents. The opinions of the supporters of LPDR, CPRF and non-parliamentary parties differ substantially from that of the average sample (45%, 48% and 56% of respondents, respectively, doubt that the government can tackle the crisis).
At the same time, as a year ago, respondents think that the Russian government has plenty of options today: every second Russian (49%) believes that the Russian Cabinet of Ministers will succeed in improving the situation in the country (47% in 2015). Twenty-three percent have skeptical views. A further 23% believe that prospects of success and failure are equal. The expectation index* measuring the government’s yearly success has reached an all-time high, since 1999, (25 p. in 2015 and 26 p. 2016).
Expectation index is based on the question “In your opinion, is the Russian government capable of improving the situation in the country in the coming year, or not?; it shows the level of expectations from the government. The index is calculated as a difference of positive and negative answers; it is measured in points and can vary between -100 and 100. The higher the value of index, the higher the confidence in the government is.
The VCIOM opinion poll was conducted on February 13-14, 2016. A total of 1600 respondents were interviewed in 130 settlements in 46 regions and republics of Russia. The margin of error does not exceed 3.5%.
