Over the recent ten years personal security, health, financial well-being and relations with relatives have been regarded as the most important things in the life of Russians. Social status and creative realization are less important for them.
MOSCOW, September 26, 2014. Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VCIOM) presents the information concerning what things are most important for Russians.
As before the most important aspect of life for Russians is security (personal and family members`): the index makes up 97 percentage points (varying between -100 to 100). This issue is “very important” for seventy-nine percent of Russians and “not important at all” for less than 1%.
Such things as family well-being (index – 96 points) and relations with relatives (96 points) are significant. Health issues are also very important – 95 points. Some respondents highly appreciate communicating with friends (88 points). Community`s social infrastructure records 83 points (a drop of 9 points since 2009).
Over the recent five years the index of environment importance has declined (from 89 points in 2009 to 82 points in 2014). Climate issues are also less important for Russians (a drop from 77 points in 2009 to 61 points in 2014).
Russians still pay attention to being able to achieve the goals (77 points); this record is almost the same as it was in 2005 (78 points). Fewer Russians are bothered with the current economic and political situation in the country; this share has declined five-fold in five years (76 points vs 87 points in 2009).
Index of leisure importance has slightly declined and reached 61 points (a drop of 10 points since 2009). As ten years ago, social status does not play any substantial role for Russians (70-73 points in 2005-2009; today – 52 points). The same is true for creative realization; over the recent five years its importance has dropped from 58 points in 2009 to 38 in 2014).
Career development index stands at 14 points. This indicator was measured only once (7 points in 2007). Participation in social and political life is least important thing for Russians (-1 point; a drop of 9 points since 2009. twenty percent of Russians report that this issue does not matter to them at all.
*Index shows how Russians assess different aspects of their life. The index is based on the question “How important for you are the following aspects of your life?».The index is calculated as a difference between positive and negative answers and can vary between -100 to 100 points. The higher the value of index is, the more important the aspect is for Russians.
The VCIOM opinion poll was conducted on September 20-21, 2014. 1600 respondents were interviewed in 130 communities in 42 regions of Russia. Data are weighted by gender, age, education, working status and type of settlement. The margin of error does not exceed 3.4%.
