Moscow, November 29, 2007 Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VCIOM) presents information concerning how Russians would vote if presidential elections were to take place this Sunday.
Two thirds of respondents would have voted for the current president - V. Putin. His level of electoral support has fluctuated within an interval of 60-66% during 2007. According to the survey conducted on November 24-25 this parameter amounted to 63,5 %.
All other potential presidential contenders are considerably lagging behind. V. Zhirinovsky (3,3%), G. Zyuganov (2,8%), V. Zubkov (1,8%), S. Ivanov (2,0%), D. Medvedev (2,5%) have 2-3% of vote each. 1,4% of respondents would vote for S. Mironov, whereas less than 1% would vote for any other potential presidential contender.
The share of those who would not participate in the elections, that used to total 7-10 % in October this year, fell down to 5,4% by the end of November. At the same time the number of those who could not provide an answer to this question grew from 5-10% to reach 12,2%.
84,7% of "Unified Russia" supporters would give their votes to V. Putin. Voters of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation and LDPR would give a little more preference to their own party leaders. 40,0% of supporters of the Communist Party express their willingness to vote for G. Zyuganov in the presidential elections, 31,4% want to give their vote to V. Putin, 5,7% would vote for each of S. Ivanov and A. Lukashenko. 49,5% of supporters of LDPR would like to see V. Zhirinovsky as President of Russia, 25,3% prefer V. Putin, 5,5% V. Zubkov. "Fair Russia" supporters find V. Putin more suitable as President than S. Mironov, the leader of their own political party (39,4% and 21,2% respectively), 6,1% of supporters of this party would vote for V. Zubkov and 4,5% for each of S. Ivanov and D. Medvedev.
Among the respondents approving of V. Putin's activity as President, 74,0% would vote for him, whereas only less than 3% would give their vote to any other presidential contender. Interestingly enough, even respondents who are not in favour of V. Putin's activity cannot find another worthy replacement for him. 15,4% among them would vote for V. Putin, approximately as much (16,0%) would give their vote for G. Zyuganov, a little less (11,5%) for V. Zhirinovsky.
The initiative all-Russia opinion poll was conducted by VCIOM in November 24-25, 2007. 1600 respondents were interviewed in 153 population areas of 46 regions of Russia. The statistical error does not exceed 3.4%.
