Seventy percent of Russians do not know anyone among their friends who would like to move abroad permanently.
MOSCOW, July 16, 2013. Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VCIOM) presents the data describing the scale and reasons of the Russian emigration to foreign countries to live there permanently.
Every fifth Russian reports that over the recent years the number of people willing to move to other countries has decreased (21%). More than one-third of Russians (37%) believe that the number of such people has stayed the same. Twenty-nine percent of Russians polled say that the number of such people has grown up. Those who report the decrease in numbers are mainly residents of Moscow and St.Petersburg (28%) and those aged 45-59 (26%). Those who report the increase in numbers are residents of cities with population from 100 to 500 thousand people (37%), as well as respondents aged 18 - 24 (37%).
Most of Russians (70%) do not have friends who would like to move to a foreign country.
According to respondents who know someone who would like to emigrate, the reason behind that is the desire to improve the living conditions (54%). Other reason is inability to achieve self- actualization (16%). Five percent of Russians believe that there is much more order abroad. Safety and living close to relatives are other reasons that make people emigrate (3% per each group).
The VCIOM opinion polls were conducted on July 13-14, 2013. 1600 respondents were interviewed in 130 communities in 42 regions of Russia. The margin of error does not exceed 3.4%
