MOSCOW, March 29, 2010. Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VCIOM) presents the data concerning the attitude of Russians to Dmitry Medvedev and describing his achievements or failures as it is viewed by our fellow-citizens.
40% of Russians fully trust Dmitry Medvedev both as a human and as a politician. First of all, they are supporters of United Russia (56%), elder people (50%), inhabitants of South and Siberian districts (50 and 48%). Every third (31%) respondent sympathize to the head of the state as a human but skeptically assess his abilities to rule the country - in general they are supporters of Communist Party and Liberal and Democratic Party (42 and 44%) and inhabitants of Urals (45%). Those who trust the President as a politician but not as a human (8%) and don't trust him anyway (10%) are in the minority.
If in 2009 Russians considered Medvedev's main achievement to be actions during Georgian-Ossetian conflict (16%), now it is success in the sphere of pension provision, care of veterans and pensioners (10%, a year ago - 2%). These achievements are followed by progress in social sphere (7%), struggle against crisis (6%), reform of defense and law enforcement agencies (4%) not mentioned before. Other respondents point out successful actions during Georgian-Ossetian conflict (4%), progress in foreign policy (4%), struggle against corruption (3%), adoption of innovations (2%), attention to the youth, development of sport, continuation of previous course of development, establishment of order in North Caucasus, struggle agaib\nst alcoholism (by 1%). In comparison with last year there are twice less respondents who are sure that there are no significant achievements in the work of the President (from 47 to 25%).
Turning to failures during Dmitry Medvedev's Presidency hear our fellow-citizens mention economic crisis first of all (6%). That is why Russians indicate growth of inflation (5%), ineffective struggle with corruption (4%), growth of unemployment (4%), lack of control under execution of decisions, decrease of pensions, salaries and allowances (3%), growth of housing and public utilities fees, decline of agriculture, situation in the Army and reform of defense and law enforcement agencies, failure in Olympic Games (2%), actions during Georgean-Ossetian conflict, inaccessibility of medicine, problems in healthcare sphere, pension reform, educational problems, worsening of Russian position on international arena (1%). There are much less Russians who believe that there were no failures in the President's work (from 59 to 32%).
The initiative Russian opinion poll was conducted on March 20-21, 2010. 1600 respondents were interviewed at 140 sampling points in 42 regions of Russia. The margin of error does not exceed 3.4 %.
