IN BRIEF

The Crimean Bridge traffic opening is an important event, according to most of Russians.

MOSCOW, May 25, 2018. The Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VCIOM) presents the data of a study devoted to the opening of the Crimean Bridge.

The Crimean Bridge opening became resonant in Russia; almost every adult has heard of that (97% including 67% of those who searched for the information themselves). An overwhelming majority (92%) perceive this event positively.

Transport links between the Russian mainland and the Crimean peninsula are considered significant for 73% of respondents. They are opposed by 23% who say that only those who live in the Southern part of Russia will benefit from this car traffic. Generally, 96% of Russians recognize that the Crimean bridge opening is an important event; just 1% do not think so.

Twenty-three percent of Russians might cross the Crimean Bridge by car within the next twelve months.

The VCIOM-Sputnik survey was conducted on May 20-21, 2018. The survey involved 2,000 Russians aged 18 and over, and was carried out using stratified dual-frame random sample based on a complete list of landline and mobile phone numbers operating in Russia. The data were weighted according to selection probability and social and demographic characteristics. The margin of error at a 95% confidence level does not exceed 2.2%. In addition to sampling error, minor changes in question wording and different circumstances arising during the fieldwork can introduce bias into the survey.
