MOSCOW, August 16, 2007 Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VCIOM) in cooperation with National Agency for Financial Studies (NAFS) presents information concerning how much money and for what purposes Russians are planning to take as credits.

The number of Russians, eager to make use of credit services, grew more than two times this year - from 13% to 28%. 67% of the respondents (85% a year ago) do not plan to take bank credits in the near future, and 5% find it difficult to identify their intentions.

Purposes, for which the respondents intend to take credit, are, first of all, the purchase of audio-, of video- and domestic equipment, a cell phone (6%); real estate - an apartment, house, land, etc. (6%); pressing needs; renovation of an apartment or house; the acquisition of an automobile (4% for each option). The purchase of furniture; computers; educational, medical services (2% for each option); the acquisition of actions, bonds and other securities (less than 1%) were also indicated as purposes for taking a credit.

The share of potential borrowers is higher among the respondents of up to 45 years of age (34-39%). Cf.: this share amounts to 25% among the respondents of 45-59 years, whereas it only totals to 7% in the group of respondents of 60 years and older.

The share of those, who intend to take a bank credit soon, increases from 12% among the respondents with lower than elementary education to 23% in the group with general secondary education. The value reaches its maximum in the groups with postsecondary education - 32%, and with higher and uncompleted higher education - 36%.

The better the respondents estimate their own financial standing, the more potential borrowers among them are. If only 22% respondents in the group with low financial standing plan to take a bank credit, this value already reaches 28% in the group of respondents with middle estimation of own financial standing, whereas it totals 36% among respondents with high estimation of own financial standing.

10-12% of respondents, who relate themselves to the group with high financial standing, report about their plans to soon use the credit for acquiring audio-, video-, domestic equipment, cell phone; real estate. Only 4-7% of respondents with low and middle financial standing speak of the same intentions.

The All-Russia opinion poll was conducted by VCIOM on July 7-8, 2007. 1600 respondents were interviewed in 153 population areas of 46 regions of Russia. The statistical error does not exceed 3.4%.
