MOSCOW, March 11, 2008 Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VCIOM) presents information on what goods and services Russians are planning to purchase in the Consumer plans of Russians look a little bit more modestly this year than in the past. Thus, 24% of respondents are planning to remodel their apartment this year (30% of respondents spoke of their intentions to do so in 2007), 12% of respondents are going to pay for their or their children’s education (this index used to equal 18% last year). Russians' consumer plans concerning a number of other of types of purchase have remained at the same level as last year or have decreased by 1-3%. 12% interrogated are going to get a tour ticket, 8% want to buy a computer, 7% for each option are planning to purchase a camcorder, a digital camera; luxury articles (jewels, antiques); 5-6% of respondents intend to buy an apartment, a house; a car; a home theater; a cell phone; a set of furniture; 4% for each option are willing to obtain a garage; a washing machine, a mini center, a tape or video recorder, a DVD player or a season ticket to a fitness club.The majority of respondents do not yet have and are not planning to purchase in 2008 a share in an investment foundation, stock, a share in a house in the course of building (92-94% for each option), a season ticket to a fitness club, an exercise machine (90-91%), a trip ticket (80%), a home theater (76 %), fee-paying educational and medical services (72% for each option), luxury articles (68%), a summer residence, a country house (66%), a ground area (50%), a car, a garage (55% and 60%) or a computer (51%).At the same time the majority of respondents are not planning to purchase the following items this year as they already have them: a refrigerator (94%), a color TV-set (91%), an electric or a gas stove (86%), an apartment, a house (85%), a cell phone (67%); a set of furniture (56%), a mini center, an audio or video recorder, a DVD-player (54%). Those who already have the following items and are not planning to buy them in 2008 are also quite numerous: a ground area (44%), a summer residence, a country house (28 %)a car (36%), garage (32%), a computer (38%), a video camera, a digital camera (30%), luxury articles (21%).The initiative All-Russia opinion poll was conducted by VCIOM on January 26-27, 2008. 1600 respondents were interviewed each time in 153 population areas of 46 regions of Russia. The statistical error does not exceed 3.4%.
