MOSCOW, February 3, 2010. Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VCIOM) presents the data concerning the purchases made by Russians in 2009 and consumer plans for 2010.
According to the current plans of Russians the most popular item of expenses is flat repair (22%). The plan of less importance for this year - are vacation tourism (13%, 9% of respondents last year). The third popular item of expenses is tuition fees (10%). These items are followed by mobile phone, car, video or digital camera (6%), computer, furniture (5%), luxuries, fitness card, home theater, gym apparatus, garage (4%), washing machine, refrigerator, electric (gas) cooker or dishwashing machine, voluntary health insurance policy, flat or house, share in building house (3%), colored TV, audio and video appliances, land, cottage (2%). Minority of respondents is going to buy shares or pay in investment fund (1%).
The first place among planned and carried out expenses in 2009 belongs to flat repair - 13% of Russians finished it. The second place belongs to mobile phone (9% of Russians bought it). Less of our fellow-citizens paid tuition fees (6%), bought computer, washing machine, colored TV (5%), luxuries, furniture set, trip ticket, video or digital camera (4%). These purchases are followed by refrigerator, audio and video appliances (3%), electric, gas cooker or dishwashing machine, home theater, gym apparatus (2%). Russians who bought fitness card, voluntary health insurance policy, shares, pay in investment fund, flat or house, share in building house, cottage, land, garage (1%) are in a minority.
Some of plans were not carried out. Flat repair was done only by 13% of Russians instead of 22%, trip ticket was bought by 4% instead of 9%, 3% of Russians were going to buy a flat, only 1% did it. However, such purchases as mobile phone (9% bought, 6% planned), colored TV (5% - 2%), refrigerator (3% - 1%) were done more often. Consumer plans coincided with actual purchases among Russians who bought computer (5% bought, 6% planned), luxuries (4% - 5%), furniture (4% - 4%), audio and video appliances (3% - 3%).
The initiative Russian opinion poll was conducted on January 30-31, 2010. 1600 respondents were interviewed at 140 sampling points in 42 regions of Russia. The margin of error does not exceed 3.4 %.
