IN BRIEF

Presidential approvals are at 64.3%; 72.3% of Russians say they trust Vladimir Putin.

MOSCOW, June 21, 2019. Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VCIOM) presents the ratings of trust in political leaders, approvals of governmental bodies and attitudes towards political parties.

All the political indicators are within the established range of values. Presidential approvals are at 64.3% based on the weekly mean (June 10-16). Assessments of the performance of the prime minister and Russian government have adjusted to 37.9% and 42.0%, respectively.

Asked directly about trust in Vladimir Putin, 72.3% of respondents gave favorable answers (24.7% do not trust the current president); Dmitry Medvedev is favored by 38.5%; Vladimir Zhirinovsky is supported by  35.4%; Gennady Zyuganov, by 34.3%, and Sergey Mironov, by 28.6% of Russians.

Vladimir Putin gained 31.9% in the “spontaneous rating of trust”. Based on the weekly data (June 10-16th excluding June 12th), Sergey Shoygu holds second position with 13.5%, and Sergey Lavrov is ranked third (11.3%).

Over the recent week the level of support for the United Russia party has been 33.9%; KPRF gained 15.4%; LDPR, 12%; A Just Russia party, 6.5%.

VCIOM-Sputnik surveys were conducted from April through June 2019 and involved Russians aged 18 and over. Prior to June 17th 2018, 1,000 of respondents were surveyed on a daily basis at least in 80 regions of Russia. From June 18th 2018, 1,600 of respondents are surveyed daily. The data are taken for the six-day period. The survey was telephone-based and was carried out using stratified dual-frame random sample based on a complete list of landline and mobile phone numbers operating in Russia. The data were weighted according to selection probability and social and demographic characteristics. The margin of error at a 95% confidence level does not exceed 1% for the data collected during the six days (9,600 respondents). In addition to sampling error, minor changes in question wording and different circumstances arising during the fieldwork can introduce bias into the survey.
