IN BRIEF

MOSCOW, January 15, 2021. Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VCIOM) presents the ratings of trust in politicians, assessments of the government institutions’ performance, and attitudes towards political parties.

The proportion of respondents who gave Vladimir Putin positive evaluations is 61.6% (Dec.28-30 data), which is within the previously established fluctuation margin.

Prime minister received approvals from 44.3% of respondents, whereas Government secured 36%.

When asked directly about trust, 66.5% of respondents said they trust Vladimir Putin; 53.7% trust Mikhail Mishustin; 33.1%, Vladimir Zhirinovsky; 28.5%, Gennady Zyuganov; 25.5%, Sergey Mironov.

The rating of trust in politicians based on spontaneous responses is headed by Vladimir Putin (26.4%), followed by Sergey Shoygu with 13.6% in the second place and Mikhail Mishustin with 10.6% in the third place (Dec.2020 survey).

Based on Dec. 28-30 data, the United Russia party is supported by 30.5% of respondents; 13% for KPRF; 12% for LDPR; 7.3% for A Just Russia.

VCIOM-Sputnik surveys were conducted from October through December 2020, and involved Russians aged 18 and over. Until June 17, 2018 inclusively, 1,000 respondents living in at least 80 Russian regions have been interviewed daily. Since June 18, 2018, a total of 1,600 of respondents have been interviewed daily.  A three-day mean was taken. The survey was telephone-based and was carried out using stratified dual-frame random sample based on a complete list of landline and mobile phone numbers operating in Russia. The data were weighted according to selection probability and social and demographic characteristics. The margin of error at a 95% confidence level does not exceed 1% for the data collected during the three days (4,800 respondents). In addition to sampling error, minor changes in question wording and different circumstances arising during the fieldwork can introduce bias into the survey.

Do you generally approve or disapprove of the performance of …?
