Most of Russians are informed about the limitations of the anti-tobacco law. Most of respondents know about the ban on smoking in public places.  

MOSCOW, May 30, 2013. Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VCIOM) presents the data describing what Russians know about a new anti-smoking law that comes into force in Russia.

The overwhelming majority Russians are aware of the anti-smoking law coming into force on June 1 (91%). Those who are most informed are young Russians aged 25-34 (95%), residents of million cities (95%), and respondents with high level of education (93%). Least informed are elderly respondents (88%), respondents with low level of education (88%), and residents of Moscow and St.Petersburg (85%).

The measure that most of Russians know about is the ban to smoke in public places (86% of Russians have heard about that).  Other limitations imposed by the law are less known: tobacco advertising (39%), ban on sale of individual cigarettes (25%) and smoking in movie and theatrical productions (26%).

There is no big difference among smokers and non-smokers in terms of their awareness about his law.

The VCIOM opinion polls were conducted on May 25-26, 2013. 1600 respondents were interviewed in 130 communities in 42 regions of Russia. The margin of error does not exceed 3.4%.
