19 October 2021. VCIOM presents the data of a survey commissioned by the All-Russia population census media office and devoted to the population census.

Three—quarters of Russians (74%) are aware that this year Russia is conducting a population census. At the same time, 41% of Russians are well aware of that; 33% heard something about it.  

An overwhelming majority of Russians (85%) are going to take part in the population census; at the same time, 43% say they have already made a definite choice. Eight percent of Russians are not going to take part in the population census.

Of Russians who plan on participating in the census or who have not decided yet, 43% are waiting for the census taker at home; 41% will do the census online on the Gosuslugi website; 9% will come to the census station personally; 6% have not chosen how they will participate.

More than half of Russians (58%) are going to follow the news related to the population census; 39% are not going to do that. However, a vast majority of Russians (81%) are interested to know about the Russian population census results.

Most of Russians (89%) are confident that Russia needs a population census; only 7% of Russians do not think it is needed.

Russian nationwide survey was commissioned by the Media Office of the Russian nationwide Population Census and conducted on October 4-5, 2021. A total of 1,600 of Russians aged 18 and older took part in the survey. Results are based on telephone interviews. Stratified dual-frame random sample based on a complete list of Russian landline and mobile phone numbers was used. The data were weighted according to selection probability and social and demographic characteristics. The margin of error at a 95% confidence level does not exceed 2.5%. In addition to sampling error, minor changes to the wording of questions and different circumstances arising during the fieldwork can introduce bias into the survey.
